Picking up where I left.. sort of..

Postby Caraine » Wed Jul 28, 2010 8:03 pm

Hello!

Soo.. since I have started doing a little jogging lately (not much, but my welsh isn't the only thing that needs some training =P) I have decided that I will always listen to - at least some- of eacht lesson (and do it, wrth gwrs).
I always jogg about 2 rounds (maybe 1400 meters all in all) around the blocks.. so, with the walking spaces in it, I always get to about half a lesson - and if I have a good day, I do another round.. but that's rather seldom.

Anyway: have have noticed that doing lessons while jogging has actually a great result in multiple ways. First the welsh: I have the strong feeling that everything I have learned there actually sinks in better than just sitting around somewhere and doing the lessons then, especially because it soemwhat becomes a little unconcious while running - just like in real life, you don't think too much about what you say, if you speak with other people - you simply do it. It IS a little bit more diffucult in the beginning, to do the running, focussing on the welsh... especially, if you are out of breath.
However, I have noticed that I could simply pick up where I stopped the last time, even if a little time has passed in between. (might not be the most intensive way to learn, but in time, you'll get there... and to me, it's better to to a little, than nothing.).

Wrth gwrs I have to say, that I left the course for some time, due to soem thing I had to fix in life - but I was surprised how easy it was to pick up the lessons again. I think I had reached lesson 14 or 15 - and I started again in lesson 12 - just for the revision - but I noticed, that I could've easily started at 13 again.

This way, you have two main advantages: learning welsh, and training stamina while running. Later, if you have improved you stamina, I'm sure that it's easily possible to do a whole lesson this way.
And if one really doesn't get the lessons done during day - maybe because they have much work to do or whatever - why not getting outside for 15 - 20 mins and taking a run - and learn welsh during that time? I have noticed that this can be quite relaxing - especially if you come home afterwards and just relax, knowing that you have done something for your body AND mind - and the welsh language, by learning a little each time. And all you need is a cheapy MP3 player - with the possibility to fast forward in the "songs" (but i think that's something pretty much all newer MP3 players have, nowadays) and a little will to get outside and jog a little.

Works for me - and maybe it works for you as well.

Well, I don't jog but I do walk and I definitely agree that more sinks in when I'm moving, rather than just sitting there. It's been so hot and humid around here that I haven't been walking as much and, even though I try to do the lessons sitting still, I find my mind wanders a lot more than it ever does when I'm walking.

I do lessons while running and I always thought that if I can get the answers right even though most of my blood is being pumped through my legs and lungs as opposed to through my brain, it must be sinking in; maybe on a more "automatic" level... either way, I agree, it sticks better.
