Almost ready to start German recording...!

Postby Aran » Thu Jul 15, 2010 2:40 pm

I think we're just waiting for one last lesson to be translated before we have the first 6 (7), and can start recording.

Thanks to an early submission from Susanne for Finnish, we've been forced to realise that we hadn't thought carefully enough about how the recording was going to work - Spenny is currently doing an updated version of the software which we think is going to make it a lot easier...:)

As soon as that's ready, we'll let you know, and we can draw lots for the recording!

In the meantime - Heinke/daioni feels that using the informal strikes the wrong note - I know that Steffi has been working with the informal - maybe this would be a good thread for all of you to have a bit of a think about it, and reach a group decision?...:D

Well Aran, I've sent you the last lesson so far -but now we should all sit together (the translators) and go through each lesson and look how to cut off the (many) edges there are.. especially in the higherl essons.

Fantastic, diolch yn fawr iawn Deniz!...:D

I'll put the last lesson up on the Google Docs at the start of next week, and then in this section will probably be the easiest place for the translators to talk it all through...:)

Hello Aran,

I asked Deniz, if I could help with the German translation and he wrote, that I should ask you for access to Google.docs.

Hello, I am new here and looking forward to learning Welsh!

I see that you are also working on other languages here, so I wanted to offer my help if needed. I am a native German speaker, so let me know if there is anything I can help with.

Welcome (croeso), Silke! This is the week of the big National Eisteddfod cultural festival in Wales, and since Aran and Iestyn are both at the Eisteddfod, Aran may not be checking the site frequently. I'm sure he'll be glad to hear of your kind offer, though. :D In the meantime, I hope you enjoy starting the course, and looking around the forum. There's always a friendly person or two around to answer any questions you have, too. :-)

Hey guys,

I haven't seen anything on anybody else trying to record the German sessions. I've tried several times, but I cannot get my mic to actually pick up any sound. :(

Ooh, sorry, only just seen this, Silke - thank you very much indeed for your very kind offer! We'd be delighted to have another volunteer to help with the German translation...:D

How far have you got with the course? It would probably be a good idea for you to get a few lessons done so that you have a good feeling for how the course works - because the translation isn't entirely straightforward!

Steffi - that's a pity - I'm sure you're the right person for the recordings (and that we want to have just one person as much as is possible) - you've got a great, clear speaking voice.

For the time being, Spenny is still working on getting a version of the database system set up in a way which will make it possible for translators to input their work directly (thus avoiding the problem of having someone who doesn't speak the language matching up the sentences) - so there's still plenty of time for you to try and beat your microphone into submission...
